Soy Wax Candle Making Secrets from Home

Author: Holly M. Jordan

Many people agree that soy candles are the best types of candles to work with. In fact, as compared to other types of candles, soy wax candle making is regarded as the easiest. Basically, soy candles are manufactured by means of combining fragrance, dye and wax. Meaning, you do not need to become an expert just to produce your own soy candles.

As compared to candles made of paraffin, soy wax candle making proves to be low-maintenance. For one thing, clean-up is a breeze. You do not have to worry over clog dishwashers or basins. Second, materials are easy to get and they are not costly or too expensive. Money-wise, soy candles are in-demand and are very easy to make.

In making soy candles, all you need is one pound of wax, an ounce of fragrance oil, wax dye, cotton wick and one Mason jar. Remember that soy wax comes in two forms, which is in flake and in block. Comparatively, it is suggested that you use the block soy wax in making your first batch.

Soy wax candle making also bears a number of secrets and must-haves. For example, you have to learn how to create the right scent or fragrance. Try combining one or two known scents for a more personalized touch. It is also important to buy sets of fragrances that are compatible with your base, which is soy wax.

Remember to use wax dyes in soy wax candle making. This item comes in three forms namely block, powder or liquid. Use the one that is most appropriate. Choose one that will best complement your work. Take note of possible candle wicks. For soy candles, what works best are thicker wicks or pre-tabbed wicks. It is also important to take note of candle size and diameter. For large soy candles, the best choice would be thicker wicks. As for small soy candles, it is best to choose corresponding small-sized wicks.

Candle containers are a must in soy wax candle making. There are basically different types of containers. You can choose mason jars, glass jars even plastic. However, it is always necessary to keep all containers clean. Each container should be dry and kept properly. They should be washed and dust-free.

In making your soy candles, make sure to cook or melt your wax at medium heat. Once everything has melted, try adding the oil and stir. You can then proceed by simply adding color or dye. After which, you can pour the mixture into the container and let it set for a couple of minutes.

Differences Between Aromatherapy Candles & Essential Oil Candles

Author: Brian LaShure

If you've thought about switching to natural candles, be careful. You may be surprised by what companies are allowed to advertise as natural. Very often, candles advertised as all natural contain artificial fragrances, paraffin, led wicks or other non-natural materials.

Differences between aromatherapy candles and essential oils candles.

One thing you should know about aromatherapy candles is that they are NOT necessarily essential oil candles. Many people consider these terms to be interchangeable. To be clear, essential oil candles are always aromatherapy candles, but aromatherapy candles are not always essential oil candles.

Aromatherapy, as concisely as it can be said is the use of essential plant oils that are used for physical or psychological therapy. One thing that is often not understood is that essential oils are necessary for all types of aromatherapy. If you are not using essential oils, the practice cannot be considered aromatherapy.

What you should look for in essential oil candles & aromatherapy candles.

When looking for high quality aromatherapy candles, you must always make sure not simply that the candle contains essential oils, but that the candle contains ONLY essential oils and absolutely no other perfume grade artificial fragrances. These fragrances will interfere with the essential oils and the therapy will not be as effective.

Just as important as find aromatherapy candles with pure, therapeutic grade essential oil is finding the right type of wax as a carrier. Soy wax burns completely cleanly, does not emit carbon based soot and it odorless when burned. For these reasons, soy wax is the best option for aromatherapy candles.

Using essential oil candles with paraffin is a bit like buying organic produce and spraying on a nice, thick coating of pesticides before eating your healthy piece of fruit. It just doesn't make sense. Paraffin is a byproduct of petroleum and emits harmful petro-carbon soot when burned that can nullify the healthy effective of the essential oils.

Soy wax and only soy wax.

Just like with the essential oils, you must make sure that the soy wax is pure soy wax. If the candle says "made with soy wax," all that means is that there's soy wax in the candle. It could be 10% soy wax - you don't know. If the candle really contains 100% pure soy wax, it will say so. If the label appears confusing or misleading, contact the manufacturer and they're obligated to tell you the truth.

Having said that however, I'd like to make it clear that not all soy wax blends are inherently bad. Many candle companies actually do use completely natural additives such botanical oils like palm oil. If you're comfortable with these natural additives, that's fine. An easy way to tell if the soy wax is pure is if there is a white frosting on the top or the outside of the candle. These are the natural oils rising to the surface.

If you do opt to use a soy wax blend, make sure only botanical oils are used in conjunction with the soy wax. Make sure that paraffin is not one of the additives. Again, if you are confused about exactly what's in the candle, I would recommend contacting the manufacturer.

What type of wick is used?

This is one that most people over look. It's also very difficult to tell what type of wick is used since it rarely says anywhere on the label. That being said, you should also use a cotton wick. Paper wicks and wicks with metal cores will affect the aroma of the essential oils.

All-in-all

To wrap things up, the one thing you should remember is that your aromatherapy essential oil candles should contain only natural ingredients. Non-natural additives such as paraffin and artificial fragrance will reduce the healing effect of aromatherapy.

Use Soy Wax For Essential Oil Candles

Author: Brian LaShure

Soy wax has grown in popularity over the last decade. Aromatherapy has also been gaining more interest in the past 20 years. So why not bring the two together? United, we have aromatherapy soy candles. Before soy wax came on the scene in the early 90's, there was really no practical and effective aromatherapy candle. In the past decade, aromatherapy soy candles have become extremely popular and are being used by millions throughout the world.

You might ask why it is so important to use soy wax for aromatherapy candles as opposed to the traditional paraffin.

First of all, what is aromatherapy? Generally speaking, it is the use of aroma to aid in emotional, psychological and physical well being. In this case however, and more specifically, aromatherapy is the use of the aroma of essential oils to assist in dealing with many emotional and physical ailments.

When you use paraffin as a medium to disperse these essential oils into the air, you are also dispersing the chemicals contained in the paraffin itself, which many consider to be harmful. The petro-carbon soot produced from paraffin and the carcinogens that are released into the air disrupt the healing properties of these delicate essential oils, in effect, contaminating the aroma.

In contrast, burning soy wax in conjunction with essential oil candles does not result in the release of petro-carbon soot or carcinogens into the air. Soy wax burn clean and does not interfere with the natural healing power of the essential oils. It just makes sense to use a clean burning wax with natural essential oil candles.

Another benefit of using soy wax with aromatherapy candles as opposed to paraffin is that soy wax has a better scent throw. That is to say that the aroma is dispersed into the air more effectively and efficiently. The scent throw of paraffin is not as consistent as that of soy wax, which disperses the fragrance more evenly over the period of time that it is burned. With paraffin, you can often have throws of a lot of fragrance and throws of only a little.

Soy wax burns cooler, which has a dramatic effect on the way in which an aromatherapy soy candle throws the scent. Because the melted wax is much cooler than paraffin, the release of essential oils is steadier and more long lasting. A soy candle may take a bit longer to release its fragrance into the air, but the result is cleaner since the soy wax does not interfere with the scent of the fragrance as well as longer lasting.

So then, why is it better to burn aromatherapy soy candles?

  1. Soy wax is a clean burning wax and does not disrupt the natural healing power of the aroma of the essential oils that are released into the air.
  2. Soy wax, compared to paraffin wax, has a much cooler melting point. This causes it to have a better, more consistent and effective scent throw.
  3. Because soy wax burns much longer than paraffin, it actually ends up being cheaper to use and much more cost effective.

Soy Candle Wax

The soy candle wax is in fact solely a up to date invention. Although candle manufacturing has been around used for thousands of years, this specific form of candle dispensation is quite contemporary equally it involves a additional progressive method to candle making. Although, it is crucial to be-informed with the purpose of there are still no mandated confirmeneficial effects of soy wax candles, and with the purpose of labeling of these products is not standardized. Soy wax candle producers bear no claims to medicinal benefits and preference of service is solely left to the buyer. Although, this does not mean with the intention of it has extra dangers than the other mainstream candles out there. More exactly, up to date studies even recommend that there are selected important advantages to its aid. If you’re at this point to be taught further about this subject matter, so therefore this information will assist to educate you in relation to the soy candle wax.

The soy wax candle is made from a partially-hydrogenated form of soybean oil called soy wax. In standard combinations of this process, it has a lesser melting peak heat, and is commonly softer than paraffin wax. For the reason that of this decrease melting heat, they’re commonly produced as container candles and even equally pillar candles since various manufacturers set in other additives to additional boost the melting peak. This is specificly of great consequence since a lesser melt point means that it has close to zero probability of these candles deforming for the period of horridly heated high temperature (in other words, muggy weather).

It was around 1991 once a candle maker, by the first name of Michael, who was searching for an revision to conventional candle making in conditions of cost production, began experimenting with hundreds of diverse mixes of vegetable oils and plant waxes. In 1992, he triumphed in inventing the unique formula used for the soy candle wax, in which he was able to successfully mix natural waxes with vegetable oils and other native and exotic plant oils. Although, michael didn’t end there and kept-on experimenting with various methods. It was barely after a few years soon after as he came back to his primary handiwork and improved-on the soybean mixture that his creation got the recognition it so appropriately deserved.

The soy candle wax creation then became a thriving winner. In 2001, a company named Cargill bought the IP privileges of Michael's soy wax candle mixture. They began experimenting with it and progressively reviseing the soy candle to modify it for additional mainstream commercialization. Since at that time, the soy wax candle has grow to be part of the conventional candle making process and additional and more producers are creating them to minimize the cost of production. Although various ingredients and supplies are being added to the primary formula, the soybean oil is still being incorporated.

Today (and technically speaking), for a candle to be dubbed a soy candle wax, it has to bear at least 25% soybean oil. Michael  has no-doubt started a modern trend. Who knows? Maybe the soy candle wax will even supplant various conventional candles.

Why Eco-Friendly Candles Produce Zero Toxins and are the Healthy Alternative

Author: C I Anderson

Whether you have healthy candles or not when it comes to adding fragrance to your home and giving your rooms that certain ambiance it is probably not something that you have given much thought too but, it is something that more and more people are beginning to be aware of and realizing how important it is.

So, what is the difference with healthy candles that has everybody searching for them? Well, firstly it might be helpful if I explain the makeup of a normal candle so you can then appreciate the benefits of a healthy one.

Most candles are made from paraffin wax which is basically a by product of petroleum and when this is burned it gives off some pretty nasty toxins and chemicals and also soot.

So, whilst you thought that you were enjoying some wonderful smells, without realising you are also being exposed to other not so nice stuff too.

A healthy candle on the other hand is made from soy wax which is totally natural and certainly does not give off anything in the way of nasty by products.

Another benefit of soy wax candles is the fact that they have a much longer burn time than paraffin wax based ones and the scents are much stronger too which really does give you even better value for your hard earned cash.

The easiest way to get yourself some of these awesome candles is by looking online 1, because you give yourself the chance to make some great savings and 2, because the selection available is second to none and you can certainly avoid the disappointment and frustration that high street shopping can often bring (you know what I mean, trudging round and coming home empty handed).

Looking at reviews, the fact that there is such a huge choice of fragrances online seems to be one of the top things that you see time and time again from other happy customers (aside from the healthy aspect which is a fantastic bonus) and with names like summer bouquet, almost paradise and pumpkin pie you are sure to be inspired whether it be in a seasonal fragrance way or from a personal favourite smell maybe.

To look at healthy candles compared to ordinary ones you would be hard pressed to see a difference but, that is definitely where the similarities end and knowing that you can enjoy a longer lasting, stronger fragrance that is not bad for you is just great, especially if you can get them for less too.
